Content Marketing and Return on Investment

Interview 11 Highlights

June 25, 2013 — Goal setting and measurement are important in eventually defining the ROI of any marketing initiative. Content marketing with its social media components can present measurement challenges to finally arrive at a dollars and cents ROI (return on investment). Martin van der Roest of the Examiner talks with Warren Whitlock, author, speaker and radio host of Social Media Radio, about Content Marketing and Return on Investment (ROI) and how they work together.

Quality content is the fuel of your content marketing strategy, it’s what engages your users and drives behavior, creating measurable actions along the buyer’s journey. Posting valuable, customer-centric content on a consistent basis keeps you top-of-mind with your target audiences, creating trust and ongoing communications. Once you find the correlation between your content marketing/social media and ROI, repeating those processes that generate the greatest returns will help to define and improve your content marketing strategy. Once there is a noticeable return on your investment, it no longer becomes a discussion of what the ROI is; it’s now about finding more money to invest in content marketing.

Key Take Aways

  • ROI ultimately comes down to monetary value
  • Your company/brand/product should always be visible—post content often
  • Everything posted gets ranked by Google, high quality content is crucial
  • Building a bond with your target audience develops trust
