Content Marketing: Optimizing Content Production for Maximum Success

Interview 18 Highlights

September 11, 2013 – Content marketing across multiple generations (Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y and Gen Z) can be challenging since generational differences directly impact how users respond to content. Understanding generational differences is one aspect of intimately knowing your target audiences. In the technology area alone, there are incredible distinctions: Generation Zers have grown up in a totally virtual world (digital natives), while Boomers and Gen Xers did not. This one element greatly influences buyer behavior and you need to be aware of the differences to maximize your content creation and distribution.

David Erickson of e-Strategy Internet Marketing shares how playing to generational “cultural cues” can super charge your content with emotion and help with niche marketing. Music, movies, societal mores and historic events within the different generations help define people and can be keys to effective content creation. One caveat: what is appealing to one generation may be a turn off to another, so be sure to do your homework. Drawing on like/shared experiences can quickly generate connection and deepen the feeling of community with your customers as long as those cultural cues are appropriate for the end user.
